NANCY L. ROPER HOBART, IN Nancy L. Roper, age 89, a lifelong resident of Hobart, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 16, 2015. She was born on October 29, 1926 in East Chicago, IN, the daughter of Dr. Edward and Edna Davis. Nancy received a Bachelor of Music degree from De Paul University in 1948 and was an accomplished violinist. On October 1, 1949, she married Jarvis Roper. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hobart and the Tri Kappa Sorority. Nancy particularly enjoyed working with children. At First Methodist of Hobart, she directed the Cherub and Angel Choirs and was a 4-H Horse and Pony Club leader for over 25 years. An avid horsewoman and golfer, she remained active in these interests into her late seventies. Nancy and Jarvis loved to travel and did so extensively around the world. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family at her Barlow Lake cottage in Michigan and at her condo on Marco Island, FL. Nancy is survived by her son J. Timothy (Linda) Roper of Hobart, IN; daughters: Janice (Richard) Schell of Prosper, Texas and Cynthia (George) Plesac of Hobart, IN; grandchildren: Samantha Roper, Alison (Adam) Vandercar, Indy Roper, Christopher and Ben Schell, Melissa and Jacob Plesac; and great granddaughters: Avery and Alexa Vandercar. Her children are especially grateful for the loving care and compassion given to their mother by the caregivers at Welcome Home. A funeral service for Nancy will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 26, 2015, at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road Hobart, IN, with Rev. Rebecca Lynn Smith officiating. She will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
