Wayne J. Franklin, 62, 2313 New York Ave., died Sunday in Ball Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Noble Township, Jay County, attended Portland schools and spent his early years in that community. He served in the European Theater with the Army during World War II.
Mr. Franklin was a supervisor at Westinghouse Corp. before retiring and earlier was chief of police in Portland. He was a member of Delaware Post 19, American Legion, and Westinghouse Sympathy Club.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Beymier Franklin; his daughter, Nancy Dugan, Redkey; two sons, Larry, Richmond, and Dennis, Muncie; his mother, Lola Franklin, also of Muncie; three sisters, Geraldine Coil, Bluffton, Waneta Shreeves, Lakeland, Fla., and Imogene Howard, Atlanta, Ga.; three brothers, Dorwin, Winter Haven, Fla., Marvin, Muncie, and Melvin, Portland; 10 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Meeks Mortuary. Interment will be in Elm Ridge. Calling hours at the mortuary are 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and before services Wednesday.
