Merlene DeWeese Butler, 69, of Star City, died February 2, 1994, at her home. Born October 7, 1924, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Delbert Trantham and Virginia Lee Ozment.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Star City and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include a son, Noel DeWeese of Star City; two daughters, Karen Sue Bishop of St. Francisville, Louisiana, and Jennie Rawls of Star City; two brothers, James Trantham of New Hampshire and Allen Trantham of Fordyce; two sisters, Eva Spears of Fordyce and Mary Whitten of Star City; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a. m. today at Griffin Funeral Home in Star City with the Rev. Don Borland officiating.

Burial will be in Holly Springs Cemetery.
