Sarah was born to a large family in Albion Illinois, she married John William Washington Hill, on November 12, 1879. They had three children, which she raised by herself for the most part,as he died in 1887. Ethel Margaret 1885, Sarah Melvina (Mellie) 1883, and Charles Hill 1882. She died at the home of her daughter Sarah Melvina
