Roy L. Morgan, 91, of Parsons, died at 3:50 p.m., Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at the home of his daughter in Raymore, Missouri, where he had been cared for in recent weeks.

He was born February 29, 1924, in Bourbon County, Kansas to Rolla L. and Orpha (McDaniel) Morgan. He grew up on the farm homesteaded by his great-grandfather, Jacob Morgan and attended the Rosedale School.

He worked as a cowboy on a ranch before moving to Parsons to work at the Kansas Ordnance Plant during World War II. He joined the United States Army and served three years in Panama, where he trained people for jungle warfare.

After the war he returned to Parsons and was employed 25 years at Gribben Motors as service manager. In 1969 he opened Roy’s Auto Service and operated it until his retirement in 2004. The business continues to operate under the ownership of his son, John.

Roy was an active member of the First Baptist Church and had served the church in many capacities. He was active in the Gideon’s for 20 years and in a jail ministry several years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was an excellent marksman and avid hunter and fisherman.

On May 12, 1946 he married Frances A. “Sally” Shepard in Parsons. She preceded him in death on June 9, 2000. He and Violet Trower were married August 18, 2002 in Parsons. She preceded him in death on December 11, 2014.

Roy is survived by his daughter, Iris Standridge and her husband Andy, of Raymore, Missouri; his two sons, Allen Morgan and his wife Sara, of Topeka and John Morgan and his wife Martha, of Parsons; a step-son Jay Trower and his wife Marlys, of Oswego; grandchildren, Mike Standridge and his wife Jennifer, Amy Greble and her husband Brett, Sarah Oberlander, Lesley Harrison and her husband Seth, Lindsey Baker and her husband Chris, Tony Yanez, Amy Johnson and her husband Jay; and a step-granddaughter, Lauren Trower. Seventeen great-grandchildren survive.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin Glen Morgan, a casualty of World War II and a sister, Elda Hunter.

Funeral Services – will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, at the First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, with veteran honors given by the Brown-Bishop Post # 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
