Betty was a graduate of Lometa High School. She was a fun loving, full of life gal who was very popular with all her classmates. She had a great sense of humor.
Betty Lou Carothers Honeycutt passed away peacefully December 21, 2015 at the Brister Care Home in Lometa, TX where she had been a resident since April. A private family ceremony will be held at Senterfitt Cemetery, conducted by Pastor Jenny Tucker and services provided by Sneed Funeral Chapel. A memorial service celebrating the life of Betty will be held January 2, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Lometa United Methodist Church. Betty’s passing was due to complications of Alzheimer Dementia.
Betty was born to the union of AB Carothers and Emma Loduska Lacewell Carothers on December 18, 1942 in Lampasas, TX. Betty grew up in Lometa and graduated from Lometa High School in 1961. She moved to Austin, Texas, and graduated from Nixon-Clay Business College. Betty spent her professional career as a bookkeeper for numerous organizations.
On January 9, 1964 she married Tommy Honeycutt in Lometa, TX. On December 31, 1966 her only child, D’Ann Lynn was born.
In March of 1967 her husband Tommy was employed by the Texas Department of Public Safety and began his training academy in Austin, TX. Upon academy completion, Tommy and Betty moved to Brownwood, TX where she was employed by Southern Savings and Loan. In October of 1970 they were transferred to Sierra Blanca, TX where Betty decided not to seek employment and spend quality time with D’Ann and Tommy. In October of 1971 they transferred to Copperas Cove, TX where Betty was employed by Marvel’s Florist in Killeen. When Tommy was appointed Chief of Police in Lampasas, she and the family moved there in 1975. Shortly after moving to Lampasas, Betty was employed Lampasas Hospital and Clinic where she remained until 1989. In the mid 1980’s Betty and Jackie Duncan partnered in an antique store in Lometa. In the 1990’s Tommy and Betty started the C bar H Ranch and she was involved in the ranching business until 2013 when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s dementia.
Betty took pride in her family and everything they did. She was heavily involved with her church having served on the board of trustees at Lometa United Methodist Church. Betty was a lifelong Christian and trusted her Lord.
She is survived by her husband Tommy of Lometa, daughter, D’Ann and husband Clint Krause of New Braunfels, and grandsons; Clayton and William Krause of New Braunfels. Also survived by a brother-in-law, Gary Honeycutt of Temple and her beloved Border Collie, Maggie May. She was preceded in death by her parents.
