An Old Citizen Gone
Sedan, April 12, 1903
Died yesterday morning, the 11th, at 7 o’clock, William Billings, at his home near this place, at he age of 71 years and 2 months, after a short illness. He was buried at the Sedan graveyard last evening about 6 o’clock. A large gathering of the neighborhood were present, although many nearby knew nothing of his death until evening.
Deceased has been a resident of Gonzales county since 1849. He came to Texas a boy with his parents from Whit county, Tenn., in the early 40s, when they settled in Lavaca county, but on account of Indian raids, returned to Tennessee twice, but in ‘49 they again returned and settled permanently in Gonzales county.
He leaves six sons and three daughters, all of whom have families except the daughter who faithfully stood at her post of duty, ministering to her aged failing father. All were at his bedside when the spirit fled.
