Florence Smith Barton, 91, of Hickory, passed away December 19, 2015 at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

Born May 15, 1924 in Catawba Co., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Pinkney Smith and Claudia Davidson Smith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Glenn Robert Barton, 3 sisters, 1 brother, and 2 daughters-in-law.

Mrs. Barton was a 1941 graduate of Claremont Central High School (now Hickory High School) and had perfect attendance during her entire school career. She retired from Belk's after 42 years of service as a Department Manager and Buyer. Florence enjoyed volunteering in the gift shop at Catawba Valley Medical Center for over 20
years. She was a member of Viewmont Home Demonstration Club. She was a lifelong and very active member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. She was recognized as a "Silent Saint," an award which she was very proud of. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Nothing pleased her more than spending time with her family and her friends.

Her survivors include her sons, Ronald Barton of Pfafftown, NC, Phil Barton of Hickory; daughter, Beth B. Huber and husband Dan of Hickory; 5 grandchildren, Jones Robert Barton and wife Judy of Holly Springs, NC, Heather Ingram and husband Wallace of Holly Springs, NC, Anna Hart and husband Joseph of Clemmons, NC, Amanda Hathcock and husband Kevin of Salisbury, NC, Barton Huber of Salisbury, NC; 3 great-grandchildren, Lance Stewart of Holly Springs, NC, Adeline Barton of Holly Springs, NC, and Ashley Hart of Clemmons, NC.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, December 21, 2015 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
