Gladys Hazel Nelson, the daughter of Will and Gertina (Spilde) Rasmussen was born on December 8, 1908 on a farm southeast of Vienna, South Dakota. She moved with her family to a farm home southeast of Vienna and attended country school in Dixon Township east of Vienna. In 1925 she married Clifford Keiser and the couple farmed southeast of Vienna.
In 1955, She moved to Watertown, where she worked at Bartron Hospital and Clinic for nearly 23 years. She married Arthur A. Nelson in 1964 and the couple lived in Watertown. Gladys retired from the Bartron Clinic in 1978. Arthur Nelson passed away in 1986.
Gladys had been a resident of Prairie Lakes Care Center since 2005. Her hobbies included feeding the birds, working in her flower garden, making quilts, and playing dominoes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; her son, Robert Keiser; two daughter-in-laws, Vivian Keiser and Joyce Keiser; one granddaughter, Marli Thompson; and a great-great grandson, Seth Michael Novak.
She is survived by two sons, Merle (Verna) Keiser of Yankton, and Dwaine Keiser of Watertown; one stepdaughter, Rosemary (Lee) Christenson of Watertown; one brother, Darwin (Delma) Rasmussen of Castlewood; 15 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and 40 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, September 2, 2006 at the Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Steve Lauricella officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Lutheran Cemetery, Vienna, South Dakota.
Active Pallbearers will be Leo Keiser, Bobby Keiser, Brian Keiser, Neal Keiser, Randy Keiser, and Curt Keiser.
