Harriet Ann Dillabaugh was the only widow who settled in the new town site of Curtis during the early 1800's. She was born June 11, 1825 at Elizabeth, Ontario, Canada. She was the daughter of Nicholas Dillabaugh and Elizabeth Schwerdtfeger [sp] who had lived in the state of New York until after the Revolutionary War when they migrated into Canada. Her sister, Julia Ann, married Henry Zufelt and joined the Mormon Church in 1838. After her sister had moved to Nauvoo, Illinois, or the area close by in Iowa, Harriet joined her and became a member of the Mormon Church in 1843. A short time later, she married David Sands Colvin and moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa, where their first son was born in 1848.

Harriet and David were the parents of nine children: Lachoneus Moroni, Henry David, Wesley William, Amos Orlando, Lewis Alonzo, Harriet Ann, Janie, Mary Louisa and Charles Reuben.
