Mildred Werner, 89, of Omaha, formerly of Humphrey, died Saturday, May 17, 2003, at the Montclair Nursing Center in Omaha.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey with the Rev. James M. Buckley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8:30 p.m. Tuesday with a Christian Mothers rosary at 3 p.m. and scripture and rosary at 7 p.m. and 8:30-10 a.m. Wednesday, all at the Duesman Funeral Chapel in Humphrey. Mrs. Werner was born Dec. 7, 1913, to Simon P. and Sabina (Abler) Bender at Humphrey. She graduated from St. Francis High School in Humphrey. She married Martin J. Werner on Feb. 4, 1936, in Humphrey. She was a homemaker. They were residents of the Humphrey community except for a short time after their marriage when they lived in Meadow Grove. She entered Montclair Nursing Center in 1996. She was a member of the church, a past member of the Catholic Daughters of America, the St. Francis Christian Mothers, and the Humphrey Extension Club. Survivors include 11 daughters, Betty (Ralph) Pfeifer of York, Mary (Melvin) Dohmen of South Sioux City, Cathy (Ralph) Capazo, Sharon (Gary) Babel, Peggy (Bob) Peterson, Connie Golden, all of Omaha, Pat (Rich) Backes of Broomfield, Cob., Sue (Larry) Wackel of Crete, Rebecca (Dennis) Pick of Oakton, Va., Cindy (Rich) Renfro of Ida Grove, Iowa, and Judy (Mike) Slattery of Lincoln; six sons, Bill (Karen) Werner of Humphrey, Richard (Maureen) Werner, Tom Werner, Terry (Mary) Werner, all of Lincoln, Jack (Kris) Werner of Sacramento, Calif, and Bob (Donna) Werner of Columbus; a sister, Germaine Liebig of Platte Center; two brothers, LaVern Bender and David (Mary Ann) Bender, all of Humphrey; 63 grandchildren; and 58 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on April 26, 1991; a son, Joseph Werner; a son-in-law, David Golden; a sister, Eileen Wemhoff and five brothers, Eugene Bender, Mark Bender, Walter Bender, Melvin Bender and Carroll Bender.
