Mrs. Piner was a devoted wife and mother who was known for her generosity especially as she shared the delicious dishes she prepared on a daily basis. A prayer warrior, she constantly prayed for all the people she knew as well as for others who might be in need of intercession. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in New Bern for over 70 years where she served as a Sunday School teacher of youth and children, a worker in the nursery, program chairperson for her beloved WMU group, and steadfast partner to her husband in his duties as Deacon. She enjoyed visiting with all her family and hosted many gathering for her extended family at her retreat at Clubfoot Creek. The family all have fond memories of the "Fish Fries", "Cousin's Days", and Fourth of July reunions which were annual events for many years. Mrs. Piner was predeceased by her husband Augustine Piner, Jr. She is survived by two sons, William A. Piner (Bill) and wife Kay of Trent Woods and D. Alvin Piner (AI) of New Bern; sister Carol Hargett Mills of Vanceboro, and brother Charles Hargett and wife Melba of New Bern. She is also survived by three grandchildren who were the joy of her later years: Megan Piner
Powell and husband Brandon of Asheville, Melissa Piner of Raleigh, and William A. Piner II (Will) and his wife Emily of Raleigh. Additional survivors include sisters-in-law Anne Piner, Selma Piner, Betty Hargett all of New Bern as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at the Greenleaf Memorial Park Pavilion on Tuesday,
