Ada was born March 11, 1919 in Spartanburg County, SC, to the late John Petty and Annie Wyatt Petty. She worked in textiles most of her life and was a Baptist. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers and sewing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Earl McSwain and by two brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Sams of Forest City and Ann Hyder of Rutherfordton; one son, Don Henson of Lake Adger, NC; five grandchildren, Scott Sams of Rutherfordton, Tammy Milnac of Greenville, SC, Tony Sams of Lake Wylie, SC, Kale Hyder of Rutherfordton, April Husted of Forest City and 12 great-grandchildren.
