Born to Donald and Blanche (Gallagher) Avey. Retired Nebraska Air Guard, aircraft maintenance superintendent (CMS), 39 years and was deployed several times during his career.
HVAC instructor at SCC Lincoln for 18 years. He was owner of Avey's HVAC. As a youth, Bill loved the farm and all the great experiences to be found. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1955, and attended the University of Nebraska. He joined the Nebraska Air Guard and started a very rewarding career.
Bill married Margaret Mueller in 1960. He enjoyed both water and snow skiing and became quite accomplished at both. He competed in many marathons and road races. Bill loved being creative and working with his hands. Bill built and raced many mini sprint cars.
Bill was always ready to help others. He was a member of Cornhusker Ski Club and Independence Center Alumni Association.
Survivors: wife, Margaret; daughter, Susanne (Terry) Califf; granddaughter, Yelena Califf; sister-in-law, Twila Avey; special friends to Bill & Margaret, Patricia & Jerry Frain.
Preceded in death by his son, Michael; parents; and brother, Robert.
Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, St. John's Catholic Church. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
