Rebecca J. Cloyes, 88 passed away December 8, 2015. She attended Baylor University in Waco, TX and received her BS in Institutional Management from the University of Tennessee. She married Harry Cloyes in August of 1951. After leaving Kennedy Hospital in 1957, she and Harry and Mrs. Mamie Cloyes operated Oaklawn Garden Florist and Greenhouse; this was the first florist in Germantown. They continued operating the florist until its closing in 1990. After the closing of the florist they operated Oaklawn Garden Museum. In 1993, a historical plaque was placed on Oaklawn Garden Museum; in 1994, the National Society DAR honored them with the National Conservation Medal Award thru The We Ah Tah Umba Chapter of the DAR. They had lived in the house in Germantown by the caboose and railroad track. She is survived by one sister, Claire Crenshaw. A funeral service will be held Friday, December 11, 2015 at 11 a.m.; visitation will begin at 10 a.m. at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Chapel. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Mrs. Cloyes may be offered to the; American Diabetes Association.
