Samuel K. was the son of Jacob Benjamin and Elmira (Barger) Mickey. Jacob was a Civil War cavalryman that died at the end of the war in 1865. Samuel would have been just 2 years old when his father died in North Carolina.

The relatives and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend the funeral, on Thursday morning, at 8 o'clock, from his late residence, 2549 Ellsworth Street. Solemn High Mass of Requiem at St. Anthony's Church. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery."
