BENNETT — Virginia Cox Smith, 84, of Bennett, died Monday, June 2, 2013, at Firsthealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at 4 p.m. at Bennett Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett.
A native of Caswsell County, she was born Sept. 11, 1928. She worked many years as secretary for the Randolph County Board of Education.
Mrs. Smith was a longtime member of Bennett Baptist Church. During her life, she dedicated a great deal of time to the church, serving as organist, clerk, historian, teaching Sunday School and many other areas of the church where her talents were needed. She will be remembered also for her lifetime zeal for learning and helping others with their education.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Clyde J. Smith Sr.
She is survived by her son, Clyde Jennings Smith Jr. and wife, Susie, of Rockingham; one grandson, Clyde J. Smith III; and one granddaughter, Mary Susan Smith, both of Wake Forest. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Bennett Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 91, Bennett, NC 27208.
