She and Charles D. "Don" Childers were married May 28, 1960, in Coeur d'Alene. They made their home in Moscow, where DeMaris worked as an operator for General Telephone and Electronics (GTE). She later worked as a bookkeeper for the Johnson News Agency and for a time as a bartender at Schierman's Slurp and Burp in Moscow. DeMaris then went to work at Tidyman's Grocery Store, first as a checker and later as bookkeeper, retiring from there in 1999. She moved to Kooskia, where she's lived since.

DeMaris enjoyed the outdoors, camping, horse pack trips, four-wheeling, sewing and travel. She will be remembered as a people person and one who shared her opinion.
