NORTH YARMOUTH - Albert E. Allen, 83, of North Yarmouth passed away Monday, Dec. 7, 2015 after an extended illness. He was born and raised in Harpswell, son of Spencer and Gladys (Corbett) Allen.

After graduating from Brunswick High School, he entered the Navy where he served for four years. Following his naval services he worked with his father on several carpentry projects, one of which was helping to build the local Brunswick favorite, Fat Boy Drive In restaurant.

Shortly after, he started his career with New England Telephone Company, which spanned more than 35 years. After retiring from the phone company, he and his wife owned and operated Elena's Restaurant in Yarmouth for several years. Throughout retirement he dabbled in real estate, and could be found at auctions and yard sales searching for bargains. He took great joy in repairing slightly worn or broken furniture, and turned this into another business "Treasure Allen" where he would sell his handiwork. He was a member of the American Legion Post #91 and the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, both in Yarmouth.

In 1957, he married Vivian Morin of Yarmouth, and together they raised their three daughters in North Yarmouth. Family was very important to him. He said he always went to work early, so that he could be sure to be home in the evening with his family. Weekends were spent at the camp, where the family could relax and have fun together. As the family grew and expanded, Sunday evenings became family meal night, where he and mom always enjoyed watching the commotion of all the grandchildren together. He especially liked to tease and play practical jokes on the family members. Later in life, Friday morning breakfast with his daughters at Bernie's was the highlight of his week, as well as Sunday morning breakfast at Toddy Brook with family and friends. He was very resourceful and was always thinking of ways to fix items or improvise to make life easier, even up to a few days before his passing.

He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 45 years, Vivian (Morin) Allen.

He is survived by his sister, Ruth and her husband, Bill Allen of Harpswell; his daughter, Debbie and her husband, Stephen Low of Clayton, N.C. and their children, Greg Low and his wife, Morgan Weston, Danielle Low and Meri Low and her husband, Mark Neace; his daughter, Sandy and her husband, Kerry Burnell of North Yarmouth and children Heather Turcotte and her husband, Shelby and their daughter, Teagan, Spenser Adams and his fiancée, Mary Kate Harrington, and Kerry Burnell; his daughter Cindy and her husband, Rick Young of North Yarmouth and their children Chris and Abby. He also leaves behind his long-time friend and companion, for the last 10 years, Ginny (Dwyer) Anderson of Brunswick.

The family would like to thank Dr. James Donahue, the staff at Beacon Hospice, First Light Home Care and Coastal Manor for their dedicated care during his illnesses.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015 from 3-5 p.m. at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Dec. 21, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 326 Main Street, Yarmouth, with a reception immediately following in the church hall. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in Holy Cross Cemetery, 78 Smith Street, Yarmouth.
