A native and daughter of a pioneer family of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late French and Hattie DeHart Rogers and wife of the late Burgin Ashe. She taught school for 20 years in Swain and Macon counties, and also in Newport News, Va. She was a graduate of Western Carolina Teachers College. She was a member of Bryson City United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a son, Robbie Ashe of Bryson City; two daughters, Margaret Ashe of Bryson City and Maxine Kirk of Lake Mary, Fla.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. The Rev. Jim Cochran will officiate. Burial will be in DeHart Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
