Eliza Singer was the first wife of Samuel Bonnett (1794-1856). He was the son of Jacob Bonnett (1761-1847) and Martha Hughes and grandson of Mary Elizabeth and Samuel Bonnett (1737-1789). Eliza died just five days after giving birth to their son Perry Green. Eliza and Samuel were married December 24, 1818, according to Lewis County Marriage Records. Their Marriage Bond was issued on December 21, 1818. (Lewis County Marriage Bonds 1818 p. 36) Samuel married secondly, Lucinda Fitzhugh Hooe on December 5, 1820. Samuel and Lucinda left Lewis County about 1844 moving first to Green County, Ohio, where they are found in the 1850 census. Their daughter, Martha, remained in Lewis County as she had married Robert Hinzman. Another son, Mansfield, had died at the age of two and is buried in Old Harmony Cemetery. Samuel and Lucinda then moved, along with their family of 11, further west to Mahaska County, Iowa, where they began farming. They arrived in Mahaska County by 1853 as their son, Granville, died there in 1853 and is buried in Cone Cemetery. Samuel died on November 20, 1856, and Lucinda on July 15, 1884. Eliza's son, Perry Green Bonnett, is buried near her in Old Harmony Cemetery. He was born October 10, 1819 and died on February 24, 1820.
