Former Judge Dies, Aged 81

Albert A. Doub, Native Of Washington County, Dies At Cumberland

Cumberland, Md., Nov. 15.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow for Albert A. Doub, former associate judge of Maryland's fourth judicial circuit, who died at the Memorial Hospital yesterday. He was 81.

A well-known lawyer and political figure, Doub was Republican candidate for state attorney general in 1915, the same post for which the party nominated his son, George Cochran Doub, in this year's election.

For years one of the most brilliant attorneys of the Cumberland bar, former Judge Doub was concerned with some of the most important litigation in the State and Federal courts of Maryland. Recognition of his professional ability was manifested when, in 1915, he was made the Republican candidate for Attorney General of Maryland.

Before his nomination and election to the bench, he was widely known as one of the most prominent attorneys in the state. He became associate judge after the resignation of the late Robert R. Henderson.

After retiring from the bench in 1935, former Judge Doub resumed his law practice until his retirement in 1940. He was a past president of the Allegany County Bar Association, a member of the Cumberland Kiwanis Club.

After attending high school at Hagerstown, he attended the University of Kentucky at Lexington, Ky., for one year and in 1883 entered Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, where he was graduated in 1886 with a degree of Bachelor of Arts.

He served two years as principal of Williamsport High School and about five years as principal of Beall High School in Frostburg. In 1893 he was elected treasurer of Allegany County, and in January, 1894, was admitted to the bar. Latter he served as city attorney for both Frostburg and Cumberland.

One of the most influential representatives of the Republican party in Maryland, for Judge Doub was delegate at large to the Republican National Convention in 1916.

In 1888 he married Miss Mary Gruber, of Washington County, who died in 1891. In 1900 he married Miss Anne Peyton Cochran, a daughter of George M. Cochran, of Staunton, Va. The second Mrs. Doub died January 18, 1942.

Surviving are four daughters, Miss Anne Peyton Doub; Mrs. Lester Sigourney, Bristol, Conn.; Mrs. William A. Glasgow, Washington, D. C., and Mrs. Bannister Roberts, Woodbury, Conn.; two sons, George Cochran Doub, of Baltimore, who was the Republican nominee for Attorney General in the recent election, and Albert A. Doub, Jr., of Cumberland; on brother Frank L. Doub, Beaver Creek, and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p. m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church with Rev. David C. Watson, rector, officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery.
