Jerry was a 1963 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and attended Missouri Southern State University in Joplin. He worked as a field engineer for Toth and Associates in Springfield. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Vernon and enjoyed fishing and traveling with his family and spending time at Stockton Lake. He enjoyed showing his classic cars and entering parades.
On September 3, 1965, he married, Sharon Choate, at the First Christian Church in Mt. Vernon. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years Sharon of Mt. Vernon; two sons, Brent Bacon and his wife, Tronel, and Bryan Bacon, all of Mt. Vernon; one brother, John Bacon, of Navarre, Florida; four grandchildren, Chelsie, Kody, Jakob and Kaleb Bacon; mother-in-law, Rose Porter of Mt. Vernon; four nieces, Lisa, Teresa, April and Libby; two sister-in-law's, Marlene Blessing and her husband, Bill, of Addison, Texas and Debbie Dryer of Mt. Vernon.
His sister-in-law, Nancy Bacon also preceded him in death.
A funeral service, under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, in Mt. Vernon, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2015, at the First Christian Church in Mt. Vernon. Burial will follow at the Mt. Vernon IOOF Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, in the funeral home chapel.
