Elsie Louise Brannon, 92, recently of Myrtle Creek and previously of Reedsport, died Nov. 23, 2015, at the home of her daughter. She was surrounded by her family.

A viewing was held. Nov. 30, at Dunes Memorial Chapel, 2300 Frontage Road in Reedsport. Funeral services folowed at Dunes Memorial Chapel with burial at Reedsport Masonic Cemetery.

Elsie Louise Brannon was born Nov. 2, 1923, one of 10 children, in Santa Maria, Calif., to Sterling and Hallie (Koogler) Doyle. She was raised in Johan Valley and then moved to Reedsport graduating from Reedsport Pioneer School.

Elsie was united in marriage to Ernest O. Brannon. He preceded her in death in 1976.

As a young woman she began working at the Reedsport sawmill even while she was pregnant. She worked on the line as a green chain puller. Being a wife and homemaker kept her busy, but she then went to work in the Sportsman’s Cannery. When she was in her 70s she was still working and would get a ride out to the cannery. She had a wonderful work ethic she passed on to her children.

Her hobbies were her family first and then working in her garden. She enjoyed being outside. She was an active member of the Reedsport Assembly of God Church for most of her adult life.

Elsie was preceded in death by her first husband, Micky T. Smith and her second husband, Ernest O. Brannon.

She is survived by her five children; son, Michael T. and Donna Smith, daughter, Kathy and Ray Reed, son, James and Toni Smith, daughter, Ellen and Daniel Rockholt, son, Don and Connie Brannon. Also surviving are her 21 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

The services are entrusted to Dunes Memorial Chapel, 541-271-2822.
