Mary J. Baker, 91, a formerly of 810 Elk Street, Franklin, died at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at Sugar Creek Station with her daughter by her side. She was born May 16, 1924, in Franklin, a beloved daughter of Herbert and Susie Lawson Whitman.

She worked for a number of years at Franklin's former Washington Lunch commercial restaurant and Bowser's Restaurant, was a "Toy Ladies" supervisor, owned and operated her own beauty shop for a number of years, was an avid bingo player and enjoyed playing card games with her family and friends.

Surviving are a daughter, Cristi S. "Cris" Karns of Franklin; two sons, Russell E. Karns and wife, Judy, of Tacoma, WA, David J. Karns and wife Cheryl, of Franklin; a stepdaughter, Judy, of Kennerdell; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends; and sisters-in-law, Virginia Kuney of Oil City and Joyce Mays of Franklin. Deceased are her parents, husbands, Kenneth Boyles, James E. Karns and Arthur B. "Art" Baker; a son, James "Jimmy" Karns; special friend, Hays Adams; siblings, Arthur "Bum" Whitman and wife Madeline, Helen I. Walker and husband Fred, Leonard Whitman and wife Blanche, Bert Whitman, Robert Q. Kuney; stepfather, Adelbert Kuney; a stepson, Eugene "Gene" Baker; and a niece and nephew.

A private memorial service in celebration of her life will be observed by her family at a later time in Franklin Cemetery.
