Henry Ringo moved to Virginia in the Fall of 1768.By 1770, both Henry and his brother Cornelius are found living in Loudoun County, Virginia, the "Northern Neck" area which touches on the present day District of Columbia.
Visions of Kentucky and cheap land there caused Peter, Henry's next to oldest son, to make a trip there in the summer of 1776 and stayed long enough to plant a crop and establish a land claim.
Subsequent to the death of Philip, Henry's first born son, in 1785, the family decided to move west. In the summer of 1789, Henry Ringo, his wife, and all of their children except John went to Kentucky and took the orphaned children of their son Philip with them.
