ORMOND BEACH - Dwayne Conley Atwill, 87, of Emerald Circle, a retired entrepreneur, died Tuesday at home.

Mr. Atwill, an Air Force veteran of World War II and a B52 pilot, was born in Springfield, Mo., and moved here in 1985 from Oklahoma City. He was a member of the Daytona Beach Boat Club. He enjoyed boating and playing bridge.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Kathryn; two daughters, Valerie Druga, High Springs, and Shelley Blevins, Jacksonville Beach; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Florida Hospital Memorial Hospice Care, 875 Sterthaus Dr., Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Memorial Service to commemorate the life of Dwayne Atwill, 87, Ormond Beach, who passed away August 15, 2007, following a short illness, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, the 20th of August, at Daytona Beach Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which is located at 1125 Sixth Street, Daytona Beach. He was born in Springfield, Mo., on the 27th of March, 1920. He served as a captain in the Army Air Corps. He was a member of the heroic crew that made the first successful transpolar flight over the North Pole, for which he received the Distinguished Flying Cross. He married Kathryn McDermott in 1945. They lived in Oklahoma where he became a successful business entrepreneur. They retired to Ormond Beach 22 years ago. His hobbies included boating and playing bridge. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; two daughters, Valerie Druga, High Springs, Fla., and Shelley Blevins, Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren, Shawn, Stacy, Jennifer and Michael; and three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Zachery and Cody. In lieu of flowers, his family is encouraging that donations be made to Florida Hospital Hospice Care.
