Addie was the daughter of Cardwell Coursey and Mary Overturf. She was one of 14 children. She married first to Charles Gideon Martin on 24 February 1895 in Polk County, Missouri. To this union they had 9 children. She later divorced Charles and married 2nd Adolf Gehrig on 4 September 1938 in Santa Ana, Orange, California.
