Sue Anne Fife was the oldest of seven children born to Jack and Anne (Breinig) Fife. She was born at Magee Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Her siblings were: William Paul (dd 1952), Becky Jo, Nancy Ruth, John Francis "Frank", Timothy Douglas, Scott Andrew and Jaqueline Renee "Jacky" (adopted).
She attended Bethel Park Elementary School and graduated from Peters Township High School in 1969. She graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a teaching degree before getting her masters degree at West Chester University.
Sue married Larry Greenberger in 1972 and was married for 43 years at the time of her death. They had two children, Stephanie (Brian Kiefer) and Zachary, as well as two grandchildren: Alexandra Kiefer and Jackson Kiefer.
