Hubert "Van" Alvin Van Der Werff, age 78, passed away at home on Saturday, August 16, 2003 in Ferndale. Born on August 15, 1925 to Aggie (DeVries) and Johan H. Van Der Werff in South Dakota.
Van grew up in Lynden and graduated from Lynden High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army, 1st Calvary Medical Unit during WWII in Japan. He married Wanda Louise Noling in Reno, NV on May 6, 1950. Van worked for a concrete business in Redding, CA before moving to Custer in 1963 to operate a dairy farm.
Van was preceded in death by his wife Wanda in 1995 and grandson Danny in 1981.
He is survived by three daughters, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one brother and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Whatcom County Hospice, 800 E. Chestnut, Ste. 1C, Bellingham, WA 98225.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. at Greenacres-Moles Funeral Home Chapel, located at Northwest Drive & Axton in Ferndale.
