Melba E. Coker Nov. 1, 1912 - Aug. 26, 2006 Graveside funeral services will be held in the West Side District Cemetery on Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m. for Taft resident, Melba E. Coker, 93. Rev. Scott Pearson, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will officiate. Mrs. Coker was born in Thayer, Missouri on November 1, 1912 and passed away in Bakersfield on August 26, 2006. She had made Taft her home for the last 60 years. Mrs. Coker was a member of the First Baptist Church, the church's Golden Agers Choir, the Grandmother's Club and the Taft Senior Citizens Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Coker, in 1993; her sisters, Lida Williams and Neta Jones; and by her brother, Doyle Arnold. Mrs. Coker's survivors include her two sons and their wives, Don and Margaret Coker and Gary and Ann Coker, all of Taft; her sister, Vera Coker of Okemah, Oklahoma; her grandchildren, Greg Coker of Taft, Christie Hebert of Houston, Texas and Kim Roper of Bakersfield; her six great- grandchildren; and by her many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made in memory of Mrs. Coker to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 8462, Chicago, IL 60680-8462. Friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home. Erickson & Brown Funeral Home
