Andy, a native of Lakeland, Fla., had lived in Jackson County since 1979. He attended Western Carolina University and graduated from Cullowhee High School in 1986 where he played football and baseball. He was a junior varsity baseball coach at Cullowhee High School at the time of his death.
Surviving are his parents, Lillie Mae Taylor Scussel of Cullowhee; the father, Carl Scussel of Clearwater, Fla.; two brothers, Carl Scussel, Jr., of Clearwater and Michael Scussel of Sylva; the paternal grandmother, Eula Mae Scussel of Hilliard, Fla.; and the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Taylor of Cullowhee.
Services where held at 2 p.m. Monday in Speedwell Baptist Church. The Revs. Roger Stewman and Eddie Stillwell officiated. Burial was in Taylor Cemetery.
The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Moody Funeral Home, where the body remained until 30 minutes before the services.
