Son of Wilbur Paul (Sr.) and JaJa Douglas Gulley; Phi Beta Kappa graduate from Duke University in 1947; Navy Veteran of WWII; joined his father in working at Pulaski Federal Savings and Loan, later renamed Savers Federal, which became one of the largest S&L in Arkansas; his career ultimately spanned 42 years; community leader having served as general campaign chair of the United Fund, President of the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce, and as President of the Little Rock Boys Club, member of the Board of Trustees of the Donaghey Foundation and Roselawn Memorial Park; served on the Boards of Hendrix College and Arkansas State University; also a long-term member of First United Methodist Church, serving on the Board of Stewards for 30 years.

He is survived by four sons (and their spouses) from his previous marriage to Jane Harrison Gulley and by their six children; also survived by his two step-daughters, one step-son (and their spouses); by their seven children, and seven grandchildren.
