Sarah was a daughter of James C. and Susan Shafer Clarke. She was born in Baltimore, Md. As her father became more successful in the railroad industry, the family resided in various cities. In the 1880 Census they were living in New Orleans, and in her newspaper wedding announcement of 1893 she is referred to as being of Mobile. She united in marriage to Horatio O. Stone, a civil engineer and real estate dealer of Chicago, IL. They make their home in Chicago. Mr. Stone died in 1912, and Sara remarried in 1913 to Walter C. Gunn, also a real estate broker in Chicago. No children were born to either union. Mr. Gunn died in 1925, and Sara died 2 years later while residing in Boston Mass. Her dear sister, Mrs. Edward T. Jeffery (Virginia) made arrangements for her funeral to be held from her residence in Chicago. "Interment private". She may be buried in Chicago with a cenotaph in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, Maryland where her parents are buried.
