Mr. Ben Walter Gary, well known auctioneer, age 83, of Spring Hill, TN passed away November 26, 2015. Having been one of the first licensed auctioneers in the state of Tennessee, Ben’s license number was # 27. His auction career was his passion and spanned over 50 years. Inducted into the TN Auctioneers Association Hall of Fame in 1994. Attended Spring Hill United Methodist Church and was a Charter member of Spring Hill Lion’s Club. Preceded in death by parents, James Spencer and Elsie Petway Gary; sister, Sara Jane Mefford. Survived by: wife of 60 years, Burnetta House Gary; son, James Paul (Pam) Gary; daughter, Julie Gary; grandson, Joe Spencer Gary; special cousins, Bobby (Ann) Russell and Betty Ray, and other loving family members.
Interment Alexander Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Scott Helgren, Gwynne Evans, Mike Padgett, David “Beefy” Baxter, John Houston, Joshua Houston, Joe Spencer Gary, Jean Maupin, and Wanda Sawyer. A fast growing business is Ben Gary's Community Auction in Spring Hill started in 1964. A farm boy all his life and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Gary. He lived in a four mile radius right around Thompson Station until he went into the Army where he served two years. His wife was the former Burnetta House. They had two children a daughter Julie and a son James Paul. He had one sister. His hobby is fishing.
