Son of Ransom and Ellender Vickers Spurlock, born in Claiborne Parish. First wife was Dialtha Jane Owens, daughter of Houston T. and Sherreldia Jane Hammontree Owens (both buried at Hurricane Cem., Claiborne Parish). Ransom is buried at Hurricane and Ellender Vickers Spurlock is buried at Driskill Memorial Cem., Bienville Parish; her gravestone is marked "GRANDMA SPURLOCK". John F. and Dialtha Jane had eight children: Jasper Jackson,1876; William Martin,1878; Era,1880; Lucy Jane,1882; John Thomas,1887; Sarah Elizabeth,1890. Also Jefferson Owens and Martin; their birth years are unknown. Dialtha Jane died in 1893 and is buried at Hurricane Cem.

John F. was a "fire and brimstone" Presbyterian preacher who, along with Rev. John A. Conville, Sr., pastored numerous churches in Claiborne Parishes. Son, Dayton, is buried next to his grandmother, Ellender Vickers Spurlock (GRANDMA SPURLOCK) at Driskill Memorial Cem. John F.'s birthyear on his gravestone is incorrect. It should be 1850, not 1846. Cemetery is in Quitman, Jackson Parish, LA.
