Freeda Geisler Ellis, 93, of Madison, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, at Morristown Manor in Morristown.
She was born Oct. 7, 1922, in New Marion, to Harry Newton and Myrtie Shepherd Geisler. She attended school at New Marion. She was raised on a farm, milking the cows before school and helping in the harvest canning and freezing vegetables. She was employed in the cafeteria of E.O. Muncie Elementary School for 30 years, retiring in 1968. She was also a homemaker. She was a lifetime member of the Westfork Baptist Church and a 50-year member of the Hanover Chapter 525 Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, quilting, crocheting and traveling to visit family.
She is survived by one son, Larry Ellis of New Palestine; one sister, Delta Little of Madison; one granddaughter; one grandson; three great-grandchildren; 13 nieces and nephews; 26 great-nieces and great-nephews; and many great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy D. "Joe" Ellis, whom she married Sept. 26, 1942, and who died July 13, 1987; her parents; two sisters, Amelia Holman and Alta Asche; three brothers, twins Lester Geisler and Leslie Geisler, and Alva Geisler; one granddaughter; and seven nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. until the service. A special service will be conducted by the Hanover Chapter 525 Order of Eastern Star at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Westfork Baptist Church Cemetery. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.
