Alfred P. Breitbach, age 87, of Dubuque, IA, and formerly of Rickardsville, passed away peacefully at 6:58 p.m. on Monday, November 23, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, surrounded by his loving family. To honor Alfred's life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 30, 2015, at St. Joseph the Worker Church, with Rev. Gabriel Anderson officiating. To celebrate Alfred's life, family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 29, 2015, at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 2001 Saint Joseph Street, where there will be a parish scripture wake service held at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, is in charge of arrangements.

Alfred was born on March 6, 1928, in Rickardsville, IA, son of Peter and Anna (Ries) Breitbach.

Alfred was united in marriage to the love of his life, Betty O'Hare, on April 27, 1949, at St. Clement's Catholic Church in Bankston. They were blessed with almost 60 years together and 7 wonderful children before she was called home on April 15, 2009. Alfred and Betty owned and operated Breitbach's TV in Rickardsville for over 30 years until his son Tom decided to carry on the family tradition in 1986. Alfred eagerly continued to work daily, answering phones and visiting with friends, until he was 85 years old. His dreams of farming in his youth were abruptly interrupted by polio, but later in life Alfred was given the opportunity to find joy in custom silo filling for several years. In his free time, Alfred enjoyed a good game of cards with his friends from the Village Co-Op and valued spending quality time with his fellow members of the Polio Group. To say that family was the most important commodity in Alfred's life would be an understatement. His love, commitment and adoration for his family was continually on display for all to see, and he always did it with a smile on his face and in his heart. Alfred was a longtime and faithful member of St. Joseph the Worker Church. Alfred has been called home now and again joins his beautiful bride Betty in an eternal state of grace. His memories remain to be cherished for generations by all who knew and loved him.

Alfred was preceded in death by his parents; a great-granddaughter, Kenzie Hessenius; two sisters, Lorraine (Francis) Neumann and Anna Mae (Raphael) Bleile; and five brothers, Raymond (Leona), Martin (Ida), Aloysius, Arnold and Sylvester Breitbach.
