Harry Edward Cassman, 81, died at 1:40 PM Thursday [July 3, 1975] in St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he had been admitted on Wednesday. Born in Lafayette, he was a life resident. He married Velma Fern Barrett on May 8, 1927, at Hammond, and she survives.
Mr. Cassman was employed as a machinist at the Monon Shops for 51 years, retiring in 1965. He was a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ, at 50-year member of Tippecanoe Lodge 492 F&AM, Interstate Association of Retired Railway Employees (Old Rails) 20, and The International Association of Machinists Local 181.
Surviving are two sons, Jerry L. Cassman and Gene E. Cassman, both of Lafayette; a daughter, Betty (Mrs. Charles W.) Hoke of Lafayette; two brothers, F. Leo Cassman and Herchel D. Cassman, both of Lafayette; a sister, Lulu (Mrs. Walter) Freezee of Ridgewood, NJ; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
