Robert Alexander Simpson, 92 of Beaufort, South Carolina passed from death to life on Wednesday, June 5th, 2013.

Mr. Simpson was the younger son of J. Norris and Sadie Frazer Simpson of Chester, South Carolina. After graduating from Chester High School in 1938, Mr. Simpson attended Clemson University where he played Freshman football. He then enlisted in the US Navy and served on the USS Rapidan in the North Atlantic. After Naval officer candidate training and courses at Purdue University he was awarded a commission and served on the submarine chaser Kelso in the South Pacific during World War II.

Bob married Marguerite Goodykoontz of Lexington, Kentucky in 1945 and the couple moved to Columbia, South Carolina where Mr. Simpson completed his undergraduate education receiving a BS degree from the University of South Carolina.

Mr. Simpson began a 30 year career in the insurance business with Life of Virginia in 1947 and managed offices in Georgia and South Carolina before retiring to Beaufort, South Carolina.

Mr. Simpson is survived by three children, George W. Simpson of Athens, Georgia, Jacquelynne Simpson Booth of Athens, and Sarah Simpson Legg of Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Daughter Sharon Simpson Boardman of Augusta preceded Mr. and Mrs. Simpson in death.

Mr. Simpson is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

After his wife's death in 1994 following an extended illness Mr. Simpson married Barbara Humphries of Beaufort.

Mr. Simpson was a 20 year volunteer for the March of Dimes and memorial gifts may be directed to this organization in his name.
