Alma C. Gruber, age 90, of Belgrade died Friday, November 20, 2015, at the Melrose Hospital. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, November 28, 2015, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Belgrade. Interment will be at the church cemetery. A visitation will be held Saturday from 10:30 am -12:30 pm, at the church. Services are entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade.
Alma Caroline Gruber was born June 26, 1925, in Krain Township near St. Anthony, MN, the daughter of John and Mary (Ostendorf) Luethmers. Alma went to grade school in St. Anthony and she graduated from Albany High School in 1943. After graduation, Alma lived with her sister Lydia in St. Cloud. She worked at Char-Gale Manufacturing Airplane Division, where she worked on the fuselage for the C-46 Cargo Planes used in the war. Alma was also a waitress at Kresge’s Cafe in St. Cloud.
Alma met her husband, Joseph Gruber, at the New Munich Ballroom. They were married September 27, 1949, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in St. Anthony, MN. This union was blessed with four daughters and a son. The family made their home near Belgrade where they farmed. On January 4, 1987, Joseph passed away. They were able to share in 37 years of marriage before his death.
Alma was a member of St. Frances de Sales Catholic Church in Belgrade. She was active there with the Christian Mothers, as a religion teacher, a member of the St. Theresa’s Mission Group, and she volunteered for the annual sausage supper. Alma also enjoyed baking, quilting, gardening, playing cards, and bus trips to the casino. She is known for her amazing cinnamon rolls, apple and cherry pies, apple streusel and apple crisp. Alma loved her family and always made time for them. She cherished the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children: Darlene Gruber of Belgrade, Joyce (David) Hinzie of White Bear Lake, Donna (Robert) Worms of Melrose, Virgil Gruber of Belgrade, and Michelle (Bruce) Nordine of St. Joseph; grandchildren: Jennifer (Curt) Spanier, Jacqueline (Mike) Schoenberg, Nicole Hinzie (Darin), Nicholas (Jamie) Worms, Samson Hinzie (Katrina), Danielle Worms (Ben), Taylor Nordine, and Connor Nordine; great grandchildren, Daniel, Alex, and Quentin Spanier, Stella Schoenberg and one on the way. She is also survived by her brother, Melvin (Ortrud) Luethmers of St. Cloud; sisters-in-law: Alice Luethmers of Albany, Theresa Kleher of St. Martin, and Marcella Hinnekamp of Melrose; and a brother-in-law, Clarence Bertram of Spring Hill.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings: Al, Norbert, Edward, Sylvester, Lydia, Genevieve, and Mildred.
