EARLIE HIGGINS, age 83, of Marengo passed away Friday, November 20, 2015 at home surrounded by those whom she loved.

She was born in Porter, Kentucky on November 27, 1931 to the late Bill and Fannie (Hunter) Wicker. A graduate of Garrett Kentucky High School in 1950, she married her high school sweetheart Carlos Higgins in 1950. Moving to Marengo in 1957, together they raised a wonderful family and traveled the world. Their trips to Hawaii, Spain, and Austria always remained special. After sharing 56 wonderful years, sadly Carlos died in 2006.

Earlie worked over 25 years as a school bus driver for the Buckeye Valley School District. A bowler and Pack 47 Den mother in her younger years, she was known as a fireball red head. At times stubborn and forever independent her life centered on the needs and activities of her family.

A wonderful cook, she always cooked for 20, her steak and potatoes were wonderful, but her breakfasts of homemade biscuits and gravy and homemade candy were the best. She had a passion for camping and basketball. She faithfully followed the Highland and Delaware City programs as well as UK and Duke. She also enjoyed gardening both flowers and vegetables.

She will long be remembered a fierce protector of her family whom she loved unconditionally.

She is survived by sons: Gareth W. (Sue) of Marion, Paul (Cindy) of Delaware and David G. (Debbie) of Marengo; daughter: Carlene (Brad) Coffman of Marengo, brother-in-law, loved like a son: Norm (Jane)Higgins of Ostrander, 8 grandchildren: Danielle (Keith) Oakley, Jennifer (Jeremy) Weiss, Andrea (Bill) Eusey, Amanda (Joe) Miller, Jessica, Lori and Jordan Higgins, Kendall Coffman; 9 great-grandchildren and their numerous friends, step-sister: Betty Jo McAlister of Fayetteville, Tennessee, sisters-in-law: Helen and Delphean Higgins.

She was also preceded in death by her brother Worley Wicker, and step-brother Jimmy Reims.

Friends may call 3-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR’s 3 at 61, Sunbury. Services will be held privately prior to the calling hours.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Highland Athletic Department to benefit the basketball program, 6506 St Rt 229, Marengo, Ohio, 43350.
