Gerald Kenneth Boward, 92, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015, at his home.

Born Wednesday, March 21, 1923, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Preston Boward and the late Jessie (Snodderly) Boward.

He graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1941.

He served in the U.S. Army 97th Infantry. During his time in the Army, he was stationed in France, Japan and parts of the United States, and fought in the last battle of World War II in Central Europe.

He retired from Bell Atlantic in 1983, after 37 years of service.

He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Chewsville, Md.

He is survived by his two sons, Russell Boward of Rock Hill, S.C., and Joseph Boward of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Violet (Provard) Boward, who passed away in December 2005; and his brother, Eugene Boward.

There will be no viewing or visitation. Services will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.
