A native of Burlington, Kentucky, he was the captain of the Comair Flight 5191 or Delta Airlines Flight 5191 that crashed at the Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, Kentucky. The flight which was heading to the Atlanta, Georgia, based Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport crashed shortly after takeoff. It is believed it tried to take off on the wrong runway. There were a total of 49 people on board. One lone survivor.
