Myrtle I. Bates, 83, of Fall Creek died Sunday July 30, 2006, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.

She was born in Mt. Hope on July 20, 1923, to Frank and Carrie (Palmer) Curler. Myrtle married Clifford H. Bates on February 23, 1941, in Augusta. She was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Fall Creek. Myrtle was a great cook and baker. She enjoyed reading and word puzzles. Myrtle loved kids and her grandkids.

Survivors include her children, Marion (Wally) Drung of Fall Creek, Rosemary (Bob) Strasburg of Eau Claire, Ralph (Pamela) Bates of Chisago City, Minn., Nancy (Richard) Anderson of Little Canada, Minn., Pamela (Randy) Luedtke, Clifford (Janet Spindler) Bates Jr. and Patrick (Debbie) Bates, all of Fall Creek, Nona Bates of Eau Claire, Tammy (Duane) Buntz of Eau Claire and Melody (Marty) James of San Antonio, Texas; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; her son Timothy; a sister; and four brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Peace United Church of Christ, Fall Creek, with Pastor John Wreford officiating. Interment will be in Trinity Cemetery, Fall Creek. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Stokes & Mundt Funeral Chapel, 535 S. Hillcrest Pkwy. (Hwy. 12 East) in Altoona, and on Thursday an hour before services at the church.
