On Monday, December 29th, at 6 p.m., James McArthur Bowers, passed away very quietly at his home near Ewartsville, after a long and painful illness from cancer. Mr. Bowers was born Aug. 12th, 1821, in Ross, Chilecothe county, Ohio. Crossed the plains to Oregon in 1852. He was buried at Lone Pine cemetery near his home, where he spent the last eighteen years of his life. He leaves a wife and six children to mourn his loss.
