Dorothy Elizabeth (Gierhart) Gariety, age 87, went to be with the Lord on Memorial Day, May 31, 2004 at the Jupiter Medical Pavilion in Jupiter, Florida. She was born on November 3, 1916 in Sidney, Ohio, a daughter of the late Albert and Cora (Scherer) Gierhart. On March 8, 1934, she married Leonard J. Gariety and celebrated 65 years of marriage before his death on September 21, 1999. In addition to being a dedicated housewife, Dorothy was employed at G.C. Murphy and Co. in Sidney, Ohio as a sales clerk for ten years. Leonard and Dorothy Gariety retired to Florida in 1977. She was also a member of the Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola in Palm Beach Gardens.
She was the loving mother of daughters: Dodie Barlow (Jim) of Palm Beach Gardens, and Judith Santiago (Jorge) of Stuart; and son, Chuck Gariety (Nadene) of Stafford Springs, CT. She also leaves seven grandchildren: Roxanne Kaminski, Lori Stewart, Jeff Davis, Lisa Roach, Angela Renner, Torri Gariety, and Troy Gariety; seven great-grandchildren: Ashley, Natalie and Courtney Stewart, Lindsay, Jeremy and Kaylen Roach, and Cole Renner; and one brother, Melvin Gierhart of Sidney, Ohio. A daughter, two brothers, and one sister preceded her in death.
