Mary Jane White Dugan was the second wife of William Henry Dugan (1814-1867), buried in the old Calhoun Cemetery in southern Noxubee County. She was the mother of three daughters and one son. As a widow, she moved with her family from Noxubee County to Holmes County in the late 1860s and to Oktibbeha County in the early 1880s. Mary Jane was Presbyterian by faith, as were her husband's ancestors. She was buried here in Bethel Cemetery which was shared by both Bethel Methodist Church and Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. Her son-in-law J. T. Sargent was the preacher at Chestnut Grove Church in the 1880s.
