Note: the given name "Edith", which is attached to her photo, is an error perpetuated by misinformation. She was named simply "Ann". Her birth year is approximate according to christening and family record of "died at 54 years old".

Born near the Hamlet/Village of Norton, Gloucestershire, England, Ann was christened at the Parish of Norton 16 April 1809.

She is a daughter of Elizabeth "Betty" Greening and Robert Marston.

Ann married Joseph Hill 29 September 1828 at Sandhurst, Gloucestershire, England.

It is believed they immigrated to America about 1851 with their two sons and a daughter. They first settled at Kaysville, Davis County, Utah Territory.

Family lore relates that they were venturing to the California gold fields in the summer of 1862.

From published material submitted in historical documents by her immediate family members:

"Ann Marsden [sic] Hill died on July 4th, 1862 in Carson City, Nevada, which was part of California at the time of her death. The Hill family had heard tales of easy wealth to be found in California, but they were disappointed to find that these tales were not true. The trails were well traveled by wagons, and water was scarce. As they neared Carson City, Ann was driving one of two wagons. The animals sensed water and bolted toward it. Ann was unable to control them, and the wagon tipped over, crushing her leg. She died and was buried where the accident happened. Her coffin was built with the boards from the overturned wagon. Her family sorrowfully returned to their homes in Utah. Ann was 54 years old when she died."

This location would have been on the Mormon Trail, directly east of the settlement of Carson City in California Territory. Nevada Territory was not defined until later.
