Lexie Downham Sr., 73, died unexpectedly Wednesday at his summer resort in Waldhof, Ont. He was a resident of 119 Southerland, Yorktown. Funeral arrangements will be completed at the Richman Funeral Home in Yorktown.

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class Lexie Downham (ASN: 56822), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company M, 19th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, A.E.F., at Cantigny, France, May 28-30, 1918. Private First Class Downham captured, single-handed, by exercising unusual bravery, ten of the enemy.


Also received a Division Citation and Order of Leopold II, gold medal (Belgium)
